I think this about says it all.... I'm missing it big time. There is Subway in England, however the closest one is about 30-40 minutes away. We are off to see a movie tonight in Lincoln and we will dine on this delicious sandwich I have been missing for nearly six months. I'm curious to see what it will be like over here, as so many restaurants seem to put the English spin on every thing here, including McDonald's - however judging from the website, it looks pretty good so far! Andy didn't really take to it in Canada, however hopefully his sandwich artist will do a better job of convincing him tonight, LOL!

The Quest For Cheap Flights

On the weekend we began looking at flights to get me home for a visit this summer. I cannot believe how outrageously the prices increase over the summer months. It's a total rip off. There are a few charter airlines that could get me there at a more reasonable rate, however this means flying back thru Gatwick Airport, which doesn't thrill me, but hey, if I need to do it, I will. As these cheaper flights book up so earlier, we may be getting my tickets as early as next week!

I was also looking into stopping over in TO to see my sisters for a few days and maybe shop for a wedding dress of sorts up there. It's really starting to sink in now that Andy and I are going to be married, especially as we purchased our wedding bands this weekend!

Tasha reported this weekend that her mom said that she won't allow them to accompany us to Canada this fall to attend our wedding, as well as meet my family and our friends. This comes as no surprise, however as they really want to join us Andy and his lawyer will be forwarding a proposal thru the courts to have Jane agree to let the children go. Apparently the judge could even rule in our favour regardless of what Jane says. Jane is citing the reason for their not being allowed to go as she doesn't want them taken out of school (something I could most definitely agree with) however as Andy has said, they have taken the children out of school for holidays on numerous occasions in the past, this is just likely an excuse - and I have to agree that he is most likely right. Again I feel bad for the kids, this is something they have all stated very strongly that they want and is much more important than a holiday down south.

Around the Globe

1. Where do you currently live? N.E. Lincolnshire, England

2. Name all the places in the world that you can think of that you've been to. Upper Canada, Eastern Canada, Virginia Beach, Tampa, Mexico, Grand Caymen Islands, New Orleans, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Scotland

3. What place in the world do you want to go to that you haven't been to yet? Where to start? Italy, Greece, Australia, China... the whole world really.

4. What's your favorite place in the world, so far? I have to say Nova Scotia... sorry but home is where my heart is. However, I've loved New Orleans and want to go back as it was too short the last time... each place I've been to has had something very special about it - I love travelling and can't wait to see more of the world. Now that I'm on Europe's doorstep, Andy and I intend to do exactly that.

5. What's the worst place you've been to, so far? Ummm, nowhere has been a bad experience, however the poverty in Cuba and the Dominican has been the worst thing to witness so far.

Bon Voyage Dawn!

Tomorrow, my friend and fellow blogger Dawn embarks on the first leg of her journey south. First she is going to Florida to spend time with her friend Debs and then she is off to Vegas to join in the celebration of my sister's wedding. Dawn, I hope you have all the fun and relaxation you deserve. I will miss you and your blog updates - look forward to seeing you on the live feed on the 5th!. Take Care and HAVE FUN! (Oh and keep an eye on my baby sister for me, ok????).

Its a lovely and sunny 18 degrees here. I've been happily wearing summer pants, skirts and flip flops these past few days. We have the kids down this weekend and will be going out shortly to enjoy the day. Andy and Alex just came back with a patio table and chars so we can eat our dinner outside tonight. Next on the Agenda will be the purchase of a barbecue. Yummy.

AM I IN 19th CENTURY ENGLAND?

Yesterday while Andy and I were in town, we stopped at the Town Hall as Andy had to send off his passport for renewal... I stopped to read the notices for people intending to marry and was quite amused and a little 'insulted' at how they list single women. Of course, they note the name of both parties intending to marry, their age, their addresses and their status... You would be amused, as I was to see Andy would be listed as 'previously married' and I would be listed... are you ready for this - as SPINSTER!!!! What is up with that? I noticed men who hadn't been previously married were listed as Bachelor. Good God... I guess its a good thing Andy will soon be rescuing me from living a life as a Spinster woman. I'm at a loss for words... have a good weekend.

It'S BeEn A LoNg DaY

This morning began at 6:30 when I got up to drive Andy to work. It had been a miserable night as this is our 5th week of sleeping on a futon while we await the arrival of our new bed.

I came back with the intention of going to the gym for a workout but then realized my sneakers were a filthy-muddy mess from my jog the other day and when I tried to clean them up, I also succeeded in soaking them. Alas no gym.

Around 11:30 I took myself off shopping only to end up with nothing of substance at the one store I feeling hopeful about. So feeling optimistic, I decided to brave the parking garage at the shopping precinct (Mall). This parkade is multi-level, however space here is so limited its a major squeeze of twists and turns. I was so thrilled to have found my way there that I didn't take as much care as I should have on one turn and knicked the front bumper on one of the guardrails... I then managed to squeeze myself tightly into a very small space, however once I'd seen that I'd scraped the car (one day after it came out of the shop) I was too ill at heart to shop and just left.

I made it home to find an email from a good friend saying that the lease company he works for is giving him the opportunity to offer friends/friends of friends $1000 off a new vehicle (I think to lease or buy) and as it's the company that I leased my car thru back home (I won't get into all of that as everyone knows my story) I responded rather quickly, saying that I wouldn't lease from, or recommend that company to anyone again. I think I really hurt him with this email and for that I am sorry. Although I was having a bad day, it was no reason to open my big mouth in slight of something that is really a good offer. I was out of line.

Andy and I then took the boys out for supper, which wasn't very good at all and thankfully he and I have just made it home to relax for the evening.

I really need to wind down.

Oh one good thing - the car isn't too bad - I wasn't going very fast so its not dented or anything and Andy thinks he can fix it himself.

Daily Dirt....

Couch potato...

1. What shows do you watch?
Hmmm it's different here in England... Friends, Miss Match, American Idol, CSI, CSI Miami (most of this shows are a couple of episodes behind). I do like watching My Family and old reruns of the Vicar of Dibley in regard to English TV.

2. As a child, which shows/cartoons did you always watch? The Littlest Hobo, The Flintstones, Fantasy Island, Charlies Angels, Night Rider... lots of TV!

3. Approximately how many hours a week do you spend watching TV? Hmmm now while I'm not working??? Probably too many... at least 10-15.

4. What kind of shows do you like to watch? (reality/cartoon/soapies etc) I do like the Reality Shows such as Survivor and the Amazing Race, however I can't get them here! I do like the funnier sitcoms such as Friends/Frasier plus a few dramas i.e. CSI. I do NOT watch Soapies, lol.

5. Do you tape any shows? Not anymore, now that we have satellite - most of the shows repeat themselves within a few days.

Unconventional Bride-to-be

Andy and I were discussing the weekend the other night over dinner. My mother had been to Toronto to visit Tawny/Sandra and to attend Tawny's Bridal shower. It all went beautifully and I'm happy to say that she was pleased with the whole outcome. Andy sighed after I finished telling him about it and said 'It's sad that you aren't home with all your friends and family, and as a result will likely miss out on a Shower of your own". I laughed and replied that having a bridal shower thrown for me is NOT on my wish list and I'm more looking forward to a night out with my girlfriends. Showers have never been my thing, and as much as I like getting gifts, I would be happier to not have a shower. This combined with the fact that I will be having a very low-key wedding and all that entails brought Andy to the conclusion that I am very 'unorthodox' - his words. Be that as it may, I'm not willing to bend to conventionalism just because its the 'norm'.

Hence my stubbornness in refusing to let Andy purchase a diamond engagement ring... I refuse to have him spend loads of money on a diamond, just because its what's normally done... Especially since diamonds are not really my rock of choice. Before he left Nova Scotia to come back to England in September, 2002, he gave me a beautiful sapphire ring as a symbol of our love. With it he promised to come back to me - and that we would be together again, no matter how long it took. No, its not an engagement ring, however an engagement ring would not mean as much to me - the ring I wear has more significance to me than any diamond bought for the sake of propriety.

EASTER WEEKEND

We had a really nice Easter this year, especially since we had the children. We spent the days going on long walks and eating ice-cream, as the weather was absolutely wonderful. No, the sun did not shine continuously, however the air was a nice comfortable 16 degrees most of the time. At our hike through a place called Hubbards Hills the children even took off their shoes and splashed about in the stream. Below is a picture of Connor - he later fell over and became drenched!

Hallo My Friends!

As you can all see, my blogfrock has been changed - although I liked the previous one, I was having trouble getting decent sized photos to fit, so I asked my pal Dawn to find me another frock as she is so good at it! Thanks Dawn - you are truly a STAR!

I think it looks pretty groovy and I will be able to download some decent sized photos - that's if you're all interested!

Please - feel free to comment on the new site, or sign my guestbook that's located down on the side bar.

Thanks to all of you who read my blog and continue to show your support! Life is good when you have so many friends!

Well, Jojo, this is a bit bigger for you. Why don't you check out some templates with wider girth. It was impossible for me to switch the dimensions of your old one. I can change it back to the calla lilly, or you can hunt out a new one! There are lots of templates here, just make sure you pick one that is adaptable to blogger. Then let me know, and I'll fix her up for you! Hope you don't mind I played with yours!

Happy Birthday Rena!!!

Today my pal Marina is turning 39! One more year to go until the big 4-0 baby doll! Hopefully life will give you all the good things you so deserve this year. I miss you bud, and wish I could be there to celebrate with you!

It was also my buddy Darla's Birthday on Saturday and boy I wish I could have joined in for that celebration, as I'm sure it was a party. As Darla doesn't read my blog, she doesn't get a big bunch of balloons!

What Is It With These Things Anyway?

My sister Tawny has been working really hard and has lost about 10 lbs so far. Her goal is to lose another four pounds or so prior to her wedding in May. She is really pleased with the results of her weight loss, especially since she has lost some poundage off her breasts.

Which brings me to this... boobs! What is it with our infatuation with tits?? Not only are men obsessed with them, women are too. They either want bigger ones, smaller ones, higher ones, perkier ones, etc. I'm a 'little' guilty of this too. Ultimately, we all seem to want what we don't have. A few are satisfied with the ones they have - they are lucky for that. I don't mind mine, truth be told as I've lived with them for nigh on 20 years - I've had bigger boobs my whole life, and when I lose weight, it generally doesn't come off my chest. Tawny has gone down a cup size with her weight loss, as she wasn't always big breasted. Not until she was in her twenties and gained a bit of weight did she end up with a full sized chest. Its just a struggle sometimes when trying on clothes and you have to get a bigger sized top, one that's too big around the waist, to fit your chest - and face it, we're not rich enough to have our clothes custom made! Tawn and I agreed in our conversation the other night, that a good C , or even D cup was a good size, well for girls our height/build. I have lost 23 pounds or so in the past year and still wear a DD. I honestly hope that if I manage to shed another 10 pounds or so, I might make it into a D, cause frankly, I have lots to spare - but I wouldn't want to go much lower than that. Andy gets distressed when I say I wish my boobs were a bit smaller, but face it, I'm still relatively young at the moment. He has to think about me in another 20 years, unless he has the coin to pay for a 'lift'. I have nightmares of someday tucking my boobs into the belt of my pants. Don't laugh - it happens, I worked in a Nursing Home, remember? However I'd like to think that with continuous workout's and a steady diet, I might not have to face this fear for another 30-40 years... at which time I hopefully won't give a damn anymore.

Blah, Blah, Blah...

1. Do you talk a lot?
....Umm YEAH.

2. Do you like/hate it when people talk to you a lot? I love it when people converse with me if the conversation is interesting to us both.

3. Who do you talk to the most on the net? Tawny or Stacy

4. Who do you talk to the most over the phone? My Mom

5. What kind of conversations bore you? Conversations with people who are self-absorbed annoy me, and I don't like it when a bunch of people who are employed together talk shop around those who don't work with them.

Sent With Love

Yesterday was a really good day for me. I met up with my pal Carol-Anne at the gym after having my root canal finished, and off we went to the Cafe she and her husband have recently purchased. They are in the process of renovating and making new menus. I have happily agreed to design them a few flyers and if all goes well, I will be designing their menu. After we left the Cafe, we went to the College where Carol-Anne works (she's an employment coordinator of sorts) where we logged onto Skyco and ordered some American/Canadian food that cannot be found here. I met a number of her colleagues and will be going to The Learning Center with her to check out what goes on there, and maybe offer some assistance in regards to resumes. Carol-Anne says she wants to get me on staff at the College once I'm allowed to work, so we will see what happens. We have been making a few social plans for the next few weeks, which is really nice - it feels good to be out with a friend of my own.

Later, Andy and I went to see the movie Starsky and Hutch, which we both found to be funny, if not silly. As we were in Lincoln, I went to pick up a parcel that Mom had been sent from home, but was returned to the main office as I wasn't in to receive it on Monday. My mother had lovingly, with the help of Stacy and Marina, packed some of my favorite low-fat foods that cannot be bought here or through Skyco! I drooled when I saw the Dill Pickle Rice Chips... the vanilla Snackwell Cookies, and best of all, the low-fat Betty Crocker brownie mix that I make my WW Muffins from!!!! It's taking all my will power not to rip open the rice-cakes - I want to save them a while longer. I did however eat one cookie, and give one to Andy, who said I will have to hide them from him as they are good. Since he's not really concerned about low-fat cookies, he is to stay away from my Snackwells!

Well It's Done

So, on Tuesday morning I made email-confirmation for my wedding venue. Yup. It's done. We are getting married on October 9th at an Inn in Bridgewater. We decided that this would be an ideal location as 1) It's a beautiful Inn, 2) They have a wedding coordinator on site 3) The wedding can be conveniently moved indoors if the weather isn't good.

I know that its an hour outside of Halifax but I'm sure most people won't mind traveling that far, as its a lot nearer and cheaper than flying to England. Also, the Inn - The Fairview Inn, will be reserved for the entire weekend for my guests, and my guests will receive a 20% discount. There are also a number of hotels/B&B's in the area, and again, its only an hour away so people who aren't indulging in drink can drive home if they choose.

I got an email from Dawn this morning with a lovely suggestion of holding my wedding at Citadel Hill, something that could be done with the help of her sweet father, and Andy and I would love to have it there, it would be soooo cool. However there is one problem. I doubt the Citadel has a Wedding Coordinator, and sadly I am one of those gals who needs one, desperately - especially since I won't be home to do much of the planning.

Planning a Wedding - Ack

Not my thing, not at all. I guess we went in the right direction by deciding on our budget. We are not going to skimp mind, however I don't want a very large Hoop-la, just something more intimate with close family and friends (under 100, lol). Andy has already done the big song and dance with the dragon, and luckily for him, its not something I want - although God luv him, he has said he will do whatever I want. What I want is what I've just described, and he's happy with this. What makes us happier is that his Mum and Dad, sister Allison and her b/f have said they will come! We will spend the next few weeks/months determining if the children will accompany us (provided the dragon gives consent).

I still don't know how I'm gonna do this, or where to start - but I'll get there. As much as I'd love to mastermind a lovely wedding blog like my sister has done, I doubt very much this will happen as I likely won't be doing much wedding chat here. I will be laying low for the most part. I think it will hit me more when I come home in the summer to a) check the venue out, b) buy a dress, and c) sort anything else wedding related out.

So, now you all know (well those of you that don't read Locobellatuna, lol). I'm glad my sister is excited about my plans - I think I will get there eventually, lol. However I am happy to think that we are both getting married in the same year - although I'd be happier if I could be at hers, but alas, we've been down that road before - maybe we can celebrate our 10th Anniversary together!

One other very big reason why I'm coming home to tie the knot - so my family can all be together and I can celebrate with all of you who have been soooo supportive of Andy and I. It's meant the world.

Little Girl Lost

On October 20th, Andy, Tawny and I were travelling back from a wonderful day spent at Niagra Falls. We were chatting happily about everything we'd seen including the fact that some guy had jumped over the falls. We didn't realize at the time why he had, we found out later that it was basically just to prove a theory or such. This event had made our trip memorable in itself, however as we were nearing Mississauga, we noticed one of the highway signs alerting the motorists to the fact that a little girl had gone missing. This was the famous 'Amber Alert' something until that point I'd only seen on shows like CSI. We found out later that nine-year old, Celia Zhang's parents had woken up Monday morning to find her missing. It definitely added a sad note to the day and I hoped with all my heart that she would be found.

Well Saturday she was found, but sadly, not alive. She has been laying in the woods behind a church in Miss. all winter. My heart aches for her parents and relatives. It really pains me to know that there is such evil in this world. Who is so sick they can bring themselves to take a child from the safety of her room in the middle of the night and do God knows what to her before killing her and leaving her alone in the woods??? It's hard for me to read the reports in the paper, I can't imagine what it does to the people who know her. I know that the Toronto police are now promising to catch the devil who has done this and I hope with all my heart that they do... maybe this time forensic science will bring some results.

Amber would have turned 10 tomorrow.

Memorable Quote: "I can't wait till you marry my dad..." - Connor to me.

Well Spring Has Sprung - In England Anyway!

Ok... its 6:34 here in England on a Sunday evening - the sun is still shining and its about 10 degrees. The sky will remain light tonight until about 7:30 or so as our clocks sprang ahead by an hour today. Losing the hour tends to be a little off-balancing for some, however the rewards are so worth it. This time of year brings on a feeling of renewal in most people I think and I'm happy that I'm getting it a week earlier than normal. The spring-like weather really helps too, and luckily enough I don't have to be worried about getting blasted with another bout of snow like I would if I was at home. Spring is really here. Andy and the boys were mowing the lawn today, something that doesn't happen in NS till late May or so. Only problem is, now I'm FIVE hours ahead of home - but hey, its only for a week.

Two Out of Three

This weekend we only had the boys as Andy's daughter is still being 'difficult' and trying to prove a point with her dad. Although we missed her, and the situation has to be amended, we still went forward and had a good weekend with the boys. They were thrilled to get down here on Friday night and were excited to sleep in their bunkbeds. Connor kept saying he was tired and 'off to bed' all Friday night... it was funny really. I'm really pleased with the way the boys and I are getting along and I think we are growing more fond of each other with each visit. Conner is the most adorable and loving seven year old and is always looking for hugs and cuddles. He is so happy to just spend time with his dad and has readily accepted me into his life. He continuously calls us a family, which is lovely. Alex was very content this weekend, partly I'm sure because of the new house, partly because his sister wasn't around to compete with. Alex and I normally get on really well and this weekend was the best so far. The boys were helpful and good, even while we were shopping for a table yesterday at IKEA, in Leeds. On the drive back home I turned around in the car to see Connor asleep and Alex happily listening to his discman... holding his little brother's hand. It was really, really nice. It was sad to not have Tasha with us, and I hope that soon Andy and his Ex can sort something out in regard to her, as its not just us having problems with her, as apparently her mother is having a difficult time with her. (I'm relieved to say at this point that she's never stepped out of line with me at all). God I'd never, ever want to be 13 again. Anyway, I'm looking forward to things becoming happier and more relaxed with each passing week, especially now that spring is here and we are in a new house.

Can a book help change the world?

A recent non-fiction book by Norma Khouri - Forbidden Love, published by Random House, highlights the issue of so-called honour killings. Since Norma's friend Dalia's death in 1995, the UN estimates more than 45.000 women in Jordan, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip have died as a result of honour killings. Norma says: "And that's a conservative estimate. Many of the deaths are not reported at all. Many are later classified as suicides or accidental deaths."

Other reports of honour killings are in Bangladesh, Britain, Brazil, Ecuador, Egypt, India, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Pakistan, Morocco, Sweden, Turkey, Uganda and it is believed they occur in Iraq and Iran.!

Norma Khouri is pleading for letters of protest which are sent on to the UN and to the Jordanian National Commission for Women. If you'd like to help, visit Honor Lost or email honourcrimes@lycos.com

I know I will be offering my support as I was horrified to tears when I read this book. I thought that honour killings were fading in this world - how wrong was I. Please offer your support by helping Norma and the women of these countries who are subjected to this disgraceful and terrible fate.

You Are The Weakest Link - Goodbye

I don't know if this show is still on at home, but its a running thing over here, five nights a week. Normally I'm not a huge fan, however last week when our cable was down, I ended up watching a few episodes while making supper. Let's just say I was delighted to see Anne Robinson givie it to an Immigration Officer, a plump woman with glasses, who looked like anyone else really. Anne was asking what training one needed to be in IO. I loved her closing comment to this woman before moving on - "Come on, we all know that you are all trained to be as miserable as possible". It cheered me to know that it is not only foreigners that get bad treatment from IO's.

It's All Coming Together

Well Andy and I have been working hard making our house a home, and as a result of cleaning out the flat most of today, I'm a bit tired so my blogging initiative is not as high as it might normally be... surprisingly I have lots to talk about for a change, however it will have to wait for another day!

Tuesday is Chooseday

Would you rather:
1. Get an inner ear infection that leaves you feeling off balance for the next 2 years OR get a compound fracture in your arm that leaves your dominant hand useless for the next 6 months? Get the inner ear infection - I spent almost a year feeling off-balance before due to a health issue, I think I could hack that better than not being able to use my arm.

2. Discover a new species of plant OR write a book? Write a book of course, especially if its published!

3. Push the button that launches a nuclear missle at another country OR pull the trigger that kills just one suspected terrorist? Neither really, but imagining I was in the army or a government official, kill the suspected terrorist - he must have a damn good reason for being suspected. I could never kill thousands/millions of innocent people.

4. Your parents tell you that you were conceived doggy style OR reverse cowboy? ICK... I don't care how I was conceived, I'm just thankful that I was, lol and I can tell you one thing, my parents aren't THAT open thank God.

I Lost My Nerve

I haven't been around much as life has gotten the best of me the past few days. On Tuesday evening my toothache finally surpassed any natural pain and moved into a monstrosity of its own. I spent a very sleepless night battling this demon from hell. Poor Andy didn't get much sleep either as he was up trying to sooth me and give me pain killers. None of which worked, I must say. I was taking painkillers that normally knock Andy straight out, but alas NOTHING was working for me, never mind knocking me out, which would have been sweet relief. On Wednesday morning we managed to get me an appointment with an emergency dentist's office (the only one that would see me) and off I went with my frozen sausage ice pack for my 2:15 appointment. The Dentist, a kindly man in his fifties informed me that I had an abscessed tooth and would need a root canal, or to have it pulled, however I first had to go on antibiotics to get the abscess under control, and to call and book another appointment. He hugged me on my way out (God luv him) and told me that I would be feeling much better by the same time the next day. Of course I had to spend another night in hell before the pain finally subsided on Thursday - at which time I spent the day sleeping off and on. On Friday morning I visited the clinic again where thankfully another dentist removed the much hated 'nerve' - I go back in two weeks to have the finishing touches.

Well We're In

After knowing Andy had packed a lot of our things during my visit from the ToothMonster, I was very pleased to be able to help get us into the new house on Friday afternoon. Andy's mom Wendy and I actually spent an hour putting together the new futon we purchased, something the men were very impressed about for some strange reason! Anyway, I love my new house, its small, but cozy and Andy and I have been happily puttering about unpacking and re-organizing everything. I've been making daily trips back over to the flat (its across the street, lol) to bring over a few odds and ends we left behind. This week I'll be giving the flat a thorough cleaning out before we turn in the keys on Saturday.

Last night Andy set up the bunk beds in the spare room for the boys. It looks great and I think they will be happy. It took me back to a place when I used to share a bunk bed with Tawn. I also found myself thinking about the days when I used to lay in my top bunk staring out the window at all the kids playing, while we were stuck inside - in bed, at about 7:30 at night! (Dawn, you were probably one of em....)

Happy Birthday Mom!

Today my beautiful, supportive, loving mother turns 56. I wish I could be home with her to celebrate, however Andrew and I have ensured that she will know how much she is loved and appreciated on this special day of hers. I could not have asked for a better mother than the one I have. I am thankful for her every day of my life, but especially now, on this day she was born.

A Must Read

"This is another dark, haunting book by Alice Sebold. The author describes her brutal rape while in college and how the police tell her she is "lucky." The story follows Alice as she and her family deal with the aftermath and the profound effect it has on all aspects of her life. The pain and trauma just goes on and on through many twists and turns of the story."

I will be anxiously awaiting the next book by this author. Her style of writing is both gripping and endearing at the same time. That she was able to lay her story on the line like this is incredible - I'm sure many women can relate to the emotions she has portrayed so honestly and brilliantly, no matter what their story - I know I did.

MOVIE REVIEW

As our Sky Satellite is down at the moment, I ended up renting three movies this weekend:

1. Ned Kelly: Starring Heath Ledger and Orlando Bloom. It's based on the real-life Australian outlaw, Ned Kelly (Heath). I did enjoy the movie actually and found it quite amusing at times, despite the doom that surrounds the Kelly family and their friends. Orlando plays Joe Byrne - I have to say, he took the lime-light from Heath Ledger in this one. He again did a terrific job and I was very taken with the character. I find Orlando Bloom cute, but in this movie he was actually quite sexy.

2. Calendar Girls: This movie has a great cast (Julie Waters, Helen Mirren) and is both sad and funny all at the same time as it tells the (basically) true story of women from Yorkshire England.

3. Tears of the Sun: I don't know why I'm always drawn to war flicks, as some are pretty monotonous, however this one starred Bruce Willis, which was the main attraction for me, sad may that be. I however did like this movie as it had a different story to tell and took place somewhere other than Europe, Vietnam or the Middle East. If you don't like war movies though, don't bother.

How Can You Feel Both Happy & Sad At The Same Time?

Well today I have found out that both Sandra and Stacy will be able to attend Tawny's wedding in Vegas. This makes me very happy, but at the same time it also makes me sad. Andy and I really wanted to go, however with our own situation here in England it just didn't seem to be possible, so we reached an agreement that we would pay for Sandra's ticket to Vegas as a wedding gift in order for her to have one sibling present. As a result Brad (Sandra's BF) decided he would go too, which is doubly nice. Now Stacy has decided that she too can manage the airfare and cost and will be attending the wedding as well. Tawny will now have family at her wedding which is what really counts. Of course me being me, I have to go and feel down that all three of my sisters will be in Vegas for this celebration and I will be stuck here in England. I feel bad for even thinking like this - I should just be thrilled for Tawny, and not sad. However she is my little sister and if it wasn't because of this situation I am in, I would be there, not just for her, but for me too. But then this makes me feel guilty, as I'm here in England for me, as well as Andy. I just wish the timing wasn't so bad. Well what can a girl do? In this life you have to sacrifice one thing for another... give and take - that's the way life goes. But that doesn't make is SUCK (as Stacy would say) any less.

Bottom Line... I'm happy for my sister and her husband to be... they will have a lovely wedding - and I hope that we will all have the chance to be together when I get married. Enough said.

It's Finally Over

As most of you know by now, Andy is now a divorced man - completely free of his EX. It's about time too. We are free now to truly begin our life together and to begin making plans, which I am actually looking forward to. It does seem very likely that we will be coming home in October to have a very informal wedding with our family and friends. Andy's parents and siblings have said to count them in, which is great of course. So, stay tuned for further news.

At this time, I want to note, especially to past brides or upcoming brides, that at no time are my comments about weddings meant as a slight to them personally. We all know how I feel about big weddings, how I call it 'Pomp and Circumstance, but I do know that every bride/groom is entitled to 'their day' and the wedding they want, including me... and we all know I'm more into the party side of things...lol.

About Last Night...

So, last night Andy and I grabbed a cab and went in town to meet up with his work buddies at a bar called Chicagos. The prices of drinks here are much cheaper than at home and at one point we were getting two coolers or beers for £2.50. That's the equivalent to five-six bucks. Hell one cooler at home in a bar is $5.50. Needless to say, we both became happily intoxicated. We had a great time - his friends are nice fellows and seemed fine with having me out - I was the only female in the group (I'm never one to complain about that, lol). I was told numerous times that Andy was a lucky man and that I'm very 'lovely'. I have to say that Andy IS lucky , but then again, so am I.

FRIDAY FIVE

What was...

1. ...your first grade teacher's name?
Mrs. Pardington - I loved her and was lucky enough to have her again in 3rd grade.

2. ...your favorite Saturday morning cartoon? I'd have to say The Smurfs, it'd really depend on how far back I go. I think the cartoons were way better when I was young - especially Saturday mornings.

3. ...the name of your very first best friend? Tawny of course...

4. ...your favorite breakfast cereal? Pac Man

5. ...your favorite thing to do after school? Go out and play Star Wars with Tim and the boys (I was always Princess Leah), or play barbies with my sisters.

Oh My Aching Tooth

For the past few months I have had a toothache. I'm not one to complain or be wimpy while in pain, and since January, I've been doing ok, but the past 3/4 days have been awful. I fear I may need a Root Canal, as the tooth is sensitive to everything. At this point, the ache has gone from bearable to horrible (at least at night). I never thought I'd miss my own dentist, but I do. The thought of going to the dentist in England is a bit perturbing.

So this Weekend....

We began the weekend by taking the kids to supper at a place called the Trading Post, where surprisingly I was able to order a bacon and chicken (green - not creamy) salad. (Healthy salads are a rarity over here in pubs/restaurants). Saturday we ended up taking the kids to Hull to see Cheaper By The Dozen, which we all enjoyed. I had a lot of laughs as it was a light-hearted, if unrealistic, comedy. I was even more pleased when earlier at the pizza restaurant, I was able to order a BBQ chicken and mushroom pizza! (Also another rarity in England.)

However,

Sunday morning the boys came in to tell us that there was a dent in the car. Turns out there was not only a dent in the car door, but three in the roof and many more scratches. There is a bunch of old furniture laying around outside that someone left for garbage removal and it would seem as if someone had fun throwing it over the car. My first instinct was the same as Andy's - that the fellow next door might have done this. However I've been thinking A) why now? It's been over three weeks since he and Andy had their argument, B) There are lots of hooligans that come around the back of our complex drinking and such, and C) We have no proof whatsoever of neighbour boy doing this. Andy went and filed a report with the police for insurance purposes and I told him that I hoped he didn't accuse neighbour boy, not without proof. I do see his point that neighbour-boy might have waited to now to 'get back' at Andy, as A) Opportunity presented itself, what with the furniture laying right in front of the car, B) His friends were over and C) Apparently he's moving out soon. However I don't think I'm naive to warn Andy to just let it go. Plans to approach this fellow and accuse him of this vandalism will only lead to more trouble, especially if neighbour boy didn't do it. And really, what will having a go at him really do? And I don't go in for retribution unless its absolutely necessary and there is PROOF behind it. What is it with males and their incredible need to show their machismo.... being a HOT HEAD just leads to no good.

Ten Pin Bowling

Last night as I was cooking dinner for Andy I decided that we needed to get out and do something for a change. Waiting for this divorce to come through, and for the children to settle is a bit stressful, and sitting around night after night isn't doing much to improve our mood. All day I had been snappish and craggy to Andy and decided for once that I was gonna do something to change my emotional state. So, I cooked him a nice dinner and we went bowling. Bowling here is called 10 Pin Bowling, done in Fred Flintstone style. Andy used to be in a league and even owns his own ball and shoes. After haggling him a bit about that, we began bowling and actually had a lot of fun. The first ball I threw was a strike, unfortnuately the rest of my game left a lot to be desired. Andy finished one game with a score of 177 - the highest I've ever seen anyone score, lol. Thankfully that was the one game where I made it to 100 myself.

So, What Part of the States are you from???

Last night I was asked that question by the fellow bowling next to us. I smiled and said "I'm not". Leaving him grasping for something to say. Now don't get me wrong, I don't get annoyed when people mistake me for American - they don't really know any better, and in all honesty, most North Americans can't tell the difference between the Scottish and English brogue (myself not included). However I usually correct them right away but last night I was in a playful mood and wanted to see what he would say... eventually I told him where I was from and Andy and I ended up having a nice conversation with him and his wife. When I went to the bar the female bartender commented on my accent as well, saying that my accent wasn't familiar. It's funny to be the one with an accent, well a real one that is - I spent almost my whole time in downtown Halifax clubs imitating another accent, be it Irish, or my most common, Southern. Here I find myself with an actual accent, and its my own. Go figure.

At this point, I am proud to say that I am Canadian, I would never chose to be anything else. Thankfully I'm living in a country where I will be able to have dual citizenship when the time comes, because I would never consider giving up my Canadian status.

After all....

I AM CANADIAN

For the Love of....

Our Friday plans to go to Nottingham for dinner with Andy's family (his sister lives there) were cancelled as Andy's father was in hospital this weekend with gallbladder problems (he is now home). Andy and I decided that we would drive the hour to Leeds, a city that happens to have an IKEA, which I was thrilled about as we didn't have one in Nova Scotia and I certainly didn't expect there to be one here! We spent at least an hour browsing the store and choosing a number of items. I was very pleased to see alot of the same items from the Ontario Store, however it was neat to see the UK variations. The prices were similarly costed, however I still think the Canadian stores work out to be a bit cheaper. After we finished shopping, I had the choice of picking what restaurant we were gonna have supper in. These choices were heaven to me after being in the English countryside for over 2 months, as they included a few American restaurants such as TGI Friday's and a popular American Mexican restaurant chain (I can't remember the name, lol) but let me tell you I went with the Mexican place and I was not disappointed. After four margaritas, an appetizer of nachos, main dish of fajitas and dessert of deep fried ice-cream, lets just say I was definitely satisfied.... and for the record, we will be making the trip back to Leeds before too long!

My Get Up and Go, Got Up and WENT

I've just gotten back from the gym and a much over-do, much needed workout. I don't know what's gotten into me this past week, but I've let myself go, eating-wise and gym-wise, however I'm only 2 lbs. the worse for it, and back on track. I will be trying my utmost to remain focused! It's just so damn hard, especially on the weekends!

Did I Hear Someone Say SNOW????

I feel sorry for all you suckers back home in Nova Scotia! Did I miss being home last week??? NOPE.... although I would like to be home to see the mountainous snowbanks and snow covered streets, I am not sorry that I wasn't snow bound at home, or at work for 2-3 days straight! I'm also not sorry I didn't have to break my back shovelling a TON of snow. For those of you that had to do that, I am truly sorry for you, especially if you had to do it alone, I know that isn't fun. I suppose it was alright for those of you who couldn't get into work, or school, but maybe after all the shovelling, you would have preferred it!
